Thursday, November 17, 2005 2. on the road, the cars can make a u turn abt anywhere and everywhere even though its illegal. juz imagine a lot of honking, rolling down of windows and taxi drivers cursing and swearing at one another. 3. clear the dishes at a dinner table = che 4. the pple there rarely press the lift door open for u. they juz let the lift door close in ur face. 5 bargaining is a must at places where u can bargain. esp xiangyang jie. cos they are out to con the caucassians muahahahaha 6. in shanghainese restaurants, the waitresses are all young and pretty unlike in singapore where the waitresses are mainly old grannies ( think crystal jade) taxi drivers are all young males instead of all the lao ah peks in singapore. mainly because the shanghainese believe that the elderly should live their old age in blissful retirement instead of working and children are ocnsidered unfilial if they let their parents work in old age. 7. lin dan is the spokesperson of KFC in china. singapore= macdonalds= ronald susilo+ lili 8. they have a lot of nike and adidas shops and boutiques in shanghai but the price is aroun the same as in singapore. 9. shopping for clothes in shanghai now is kinda useless cos all they are selling are winter coats and boots. not to forget gloves and scarves. the best time to go would be at the end of september cos all the shops will be trying to get rid of their summer clothes at reduced price= SALES! 10. Rain is quite popular in china now. magazines either have him on the cover or they will feature an article on him. : ) 11. the weather now in shanghai is nice. its cold but not that cold. it feels great juz walking down the street in this kind of weather. 12. hairy crabs are a must try! although its super troublesome to eat, its kinda nice and eatin hairy crabs is an art by itself haha. u have to know where to eat and where not to eat. its especailly nice if the crab roe is sweet. mmmmm.... 13. if i am not wrong, the grand hyatt hotel is the tallest building in the whole of china, hk and taiwan until the taipei 101 was built. located in pudong shanghai, it stands at 88 storeys. it has its hotel lobby at the 52dn storey and many pple go up juz to look at the night view of shanghai. 14. the architechtual of all the buildings in shanghai differ. if the design of a building is similar to another, the gov will not allow u to build the building, hence resulting in the diversity of buildings in shanghai.the buildings when lighted up at night, are also a magnificent sight not to be missed. 15. i love the shanghainese language! it seems so cool juz to hear them say it. going to learn it someday haha. the shanghainese are nice too, except in the lifts and when they spit everywhere. my trip is too short! i wanna go back to shanghai! met up with alyson on the last day of my trip. although the time we had together was quite short, we had a lot of fun together. in the morning, i took a taxi ALL BY MYSELF to the hilton hotel where alyson was staying. ( gosh i am so proud of myself) haha o h wells. the driver got lost half way through and i was quite scared cos i didnt have any idea where he was headed to as well. was so terrified that he was going to drive me to some ulu part of china and dump me there. haha ok. my imagination is working overtime. anyhow he managed to find the hotel in the end and he was quite nice cos he didnt want to charge me any money. but i still paid him in the end. after meeting aly, we took a cab to XIN TIAN DI for breakfast. but as it was too early, all the shops were still not opened. we walked around aimlessly for quite a while before we finally found KFC! our saviour! cos we were both starving by then.haha and guess what? lin dan was the spokes person for KFC! i think i look damn stupid standing there anfd taking photos of the poster of lin dan. after breakfast, we decidec to walk to XIANGYANG JIE in HUAIHAI ROAD. we walked in the wrong direction and ended up on the wrong end ofhuaihai road. we were kinda too tired to walk back all the way to the other end and hence we decided to be adventurous and take the train to xiangyang jie. again, we looked stupid taking a lot of photos in the train staion. haha oh wells who cares. we got off only after one stop and walked a short distance to xiangyang jie. in xiangyang jie. we decided to try our luck at bargaining. it worked! i managed to push down the price of a key chain from 85 rmb to 15 rmb.. woohoooo... damn proud of myself. first time bargaining cos all the other times we bought stuff, the bargaining was done by my aunt. yay anyway after a short while i had to go back to the hotel cos i was going to leave for the airport. :( was kinda sad that i had to leave shanghai. felt that the time we spent there was too short! only 4 days!and ya aly and i only met up for a short while. but we had a great time together : ) i am so going to go back to shanghai someday!
